Georgian Labor Party protests opening of Turkish schools

The Georgian Labor Party protested the opening of Turkish schools in Georgia. The party's Political Secretary Giorgi Gugava called the mass opening of Turkish schools in Georgia, "the dominance of Turkey in the Georgian educational system," and noted that these schools aim to spread Turkish culture and fundamentalist religious ideas.
Gugava said the process is headed by Turkish religious leader Fetulla Gulen, whose activities are banned in his motherland. He named the Black Sea International University, the Suleyman Demirel College, as well as secondary and tertiary educational institutions in Kutaisi, Batumi, Rustavi and Marneuli, as examples of a growing Turkish influence in the country. He noted that Gulen is an ally of the Georgian presidential family, particularly his mother Giuli Alasania.
The schools are destroying the educational system and Tbilisi State University, he added.
Gugava said the number of public schools fell by 1,000 after the revolution in Georgia.
"At a time when Georgian cultural monuments are destroyed in Turkey, Georgia is seeing the mass opening of Turkish schools," Gugava said.
